During the winter, daily wind currents make this a prime location for the sport. Here, daytime snowkiting adventures can be followed by visits to Sofia’s vibrant hotspots in the evening, offering a perfect balance of thrills and relaxation.
Our Bulgarian instructors will impart all the knowledge you need for a safe and enjoyable snowkiting experience. This destination is open to snowkiters of all levels, making it an excellent starting point for beginners eager to embrace this exhilarating sport.
The prime period for snowkiting at Vitosha extends from February to April. If the winds happen to be unfavorable during your stay, fret not, as numerous winter activities, including skiing and cross-country skiing, await in close proximity to your residence. Vitosha is our sole location where you can embark on a snowkiting adventure just 30 minutes after landing at the airport, making it an ideal weekend getaway destination.
Vitosha’s higher regions are widely acknowledged as Bulgaria’s premier snowkiting destination, thanks to an average snow cover lasting three months per year, attributed to its higher altitude. Situated amidst valleys and lower mountains, Vitosha experiences constant winds at its higher elevations, creating the perfect snowkiting conditions.
Reaching the prime snowkiting location is a breeze, with a 20-30 minute ski tour that allows you to hike up the mountain. Once there, you’ll find a cozy snow hut thoughtfully constructed by local kiters. It’s an ideal place for lunch, socializing, and relaxation. Whether it’s skiing on the magnificent Vitosha Mountain or embarking on a 1.5-hour journey to the Rila ski resort, the possibilities are endless. Rila’s small but charming ski resort boasts one chair lift and one drag lift, but don’t let its size fool you – the breathtaking slopes and picturesque scenery are nothing short of incredible.
Gastronomy: Bulgarian cuisine is a delightful journey through various flavors and cooking techniques. With dishes that are simmered, braised, roasted, grilled, smoked, dried, served in broths, or stewed, it’s a true treat for meat lovers. The gastronomic adventure often commences with a ‘chopska salata,’ a refreshing salad made from summer vegetables and salted cheese. Soups are also a staple, including lentil and white bean soups, tarator (a yogurt and cucumber-based delight), and ‘chkembe chorba’ prepared with tripe. As a main course, don’t miss the kavarma stew, a traditional pork dish typically enjoyed with parlenka bread. To end your meal on a sweet note, savor the world-famous Bulgarian yogurt and syrup pastries.
