Situated in the Aosta region of the Italian Alps, just a few hours from Milan, this stunning location is nestled in a flat region with rolling terrain and consistent winds. For more advanced and adventurous riders, there are steeper slopes behind. There’s a selection of fantastic snowkite spots nearby, allowing you to choose the best one based on the weather forecast. The base camp is easily reached on foot. Drive up to Hotel Notre-Maison, park in the hotel’s parking garage, and the base camp is only 200 meters (600 feet) away, accessible via a small path.
Enjoy not only the pleasures of snowkiting but also explore the rich region of Aosta Valley. Immerse yourself in the local culture, discover its gastronomic delights, and take the time to appreciate the hidden treasures of this alpine valley. You are about to embark on an experience where adventure, nature, and authenticity harmoniously come together.
VETAN
Nestled on a high plateau at 1820 meters (6000 feet) above sea level, Vetan offers unobstructed views, expansive plains, and gentle slopes. Facing south, it basks in sunlight throughout the day, creating a delightful outdoor experience even in winter.
The snowkiting season kicks off with the first substantial snowfall around late November and extends until mid-March. In case the base camp lacks sufficient snow, a brief trek to higher altitudes might reveal more snowy treasures.
Col du PETIT ST. BERNARD (La Thuile)
Access to this location involves utilizing the lifts at La Thuile ski resort, requiring skiing skills. The snowkite pass (15 euros) can be procured at the cashiers at the bottom station of the gondola.
This spot enjoys a consistent thermic wind from France (SW) and occasionally experiences a stronger NE wind from Italy.Snow coverage is reliably excellent throughout the winter and into spring. Nightly snowfall at the site erases daytime tracks, leaving an expanse of untouched powder for your exhilarating adventures the next day.
Unfortunately, as you would know if you kitesurf often, the wind even in perfect and renown kiting spots doesn’t always pan-out. So, we at Snowkite Sensation make sure that there is plenty for you to do in this unfortunate scenario.
Other winter sports: Pila, Courmayeur, La Thuile, and Cogne ski resorts are in close proximity, offering opportunities for alpine skiing and snowboarding. Backcountry excursions, freeride experiences, and heliski services are also readily available.
Gastronomy: Italy stands as a culinary paradise. In northern regions like Langhe, Parma, or Valtellina, the sun blesses the land, yielding local treasures for travelers to savor and bring home: Barolo wine, white truffles from Alba, hazelnuts from Cortemilia, and Parma ham. The finesse of Italian cuisine unfolds with dishes like fresh pasta adorned with Parmesan cheese (from Parma, naturally!), such as Agnolotti del plin, a delightful blend of meat and vegetables. Indulge in the renowned eggplant Parmigiana gratin or authentic polenta. Olive oil and Mediterranean herbs dance with sun-kissed vegetables, charcuteries, and fish in an array of recipes bound to entice your return.
Visiting and relaxing: Aosta city is a brief 20-minute drive from your location. Don’t be surprised to hear French spoken; residents of the Aosta Valley traditionally converse in French. The city boasts a wonderful selection of restaurants, including three Michelin-starred establishments for a truly exquisite dining experience.
Backcountry skiing, is a mix of off-piste skiing and ski touring allowing to access, much more easily than on foot, a new potential of virgin slopes.
With the towering Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc), the Matterhorn, and the Monte Rosa as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the Aosta Valley provides fantastic skiing and snowboarding in awe-inspiring surroundings.
